HELP!!! Need pattern ideas for baby boy

aliassak

Question

I thought I had more time to search for just the right pattern, but I got to looking at the baby shower invite for my cousin and realized that I need something DONE by April 2nd!!! I've done the star blanket for this new baby's cousins, so I really don't want to do another one, even if it does work up really fast in a bulky weight yarn.

So, I need ideas for an uber cute baby afghan that will work up quickly (if it takes too long I get bored and I don't have the luxery of time to mess with something that takes forever.)

My only other option is to finish the layette that I had on the hook for my step-sister, give it to my cousin and then start another one for my step-sister (who's due in June, which would give me extra time.) However, I really don't want to do that since the layette is just a pain in my butt...

Cost is an issue as well. I need maximum results for the least amount of money. Unfortunately, I don't have any baby friendly colors in my stash (except for the green Patons Melody that I just got from my secret pal.)

This is an emergency, ladies! I'm calling on you all to help me in my crisis!!! :eek

I had this one made in about 2 days for a last minute baby gift. The mother really loved it and I liked making it because I didn't have the time to get baby yarn, it's made with worsted weight.http://www.jpfun.com/patterns/13kids/8hrafghn.shtml

I know you only asked for afghans, but this is a really quick and easy to make baby sweater I made. I sort of modified another pattern someone gave me to make it hooded.

OK, I just talked with my other cousin (the host of the baby shower) and found out that the nursery room colors are Navy and Tan. (not my first choice, but whatever.) They're also doing a lot with dogs and firetrucks. I would like to personalize this somewhat.

Keep those ideas coming, ladies!

I also just talked to my sister, and she's willing to help defray the cost. I guess what we'll do (since everyone knows I crochet and she doesn't) is add in a bunch of baby items for the bath (soaps, lotions, etc.) so that way both of our names can go on the tag. Gotta :manyheart my baby sis!!!

Since you are going to be putting in bath things for the baby what about this...

Making crocheted baby wash cloths. So many patterns are out there and the cotton yarn is less than $2 a skein.

Making a bath mitt. http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=122

Take a small bath towel and a washcloth. Fold or cut the washcloth in half diagonally and then put the washcloth on the one corner of the small bath towel. Crochet around it to make a hooded bath towel (if the towel does not have a sewn edge to crochet into you will have to use an awl or ice pick to poke holes evenly around it). I'd recommend a cotton yarn for crocheting around the bath towel. You might also be able to find an iron-on patch with a dog or firetruck on it for embellishment. You could also try crocheting "dog ears" onto the border.

If you are intent on more traditional. Blanket wise there is this pattern: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/cpl-bafg.html Which uses just one of those big pound of love skeins which are $8 or less, and seems to be a quick crochet. They have a natural color which would go with the nursery colors.

If all else fails, I know that both WalMart and Target sell premade baby blankets with a blanket stitch border around them, and you can crochet a border around them in a flash. Or if you don't mind poking holes through fleece, you can get a yard of it and poke holes evenly around the edge and then crochet into that. You may be able to find a dog or firetruck print. And since it's getting into spring there may be a sale on it.

I always love putting my baby gifts into a basket of some sort. Like a laundry basket, or a basket for the bathroom to keep toys in, etc. I'd rather spend the money on a basket that will be re-used than a gift bag that will be tossed out.

I hope this helps!
