working behind stitches?

alchemyfyr

Question

Hi. I have learned the basic techniques of crocheting and am always looking to learn more. I have found a few patterns along the way that say to work behind stitches. Is that another way to say working in back loops or does it mean working in a previous row all the way around? Any help would be appreciated as I'd like to go back and find some of those patterns and tackle them. Thanks!

To work behind stitches, you will be working in either an unworked st of a previous round or a blp of a previous round before the last round. You kinda tilt the last row toward you and pretend it's not there while you work 'behind' it.

I hope that helps!

Working behind is not about Back loops per se. You may be asked to work into a back loop ( I have never actually seen that) but that would be co-incidental to pushing stitches out of the way while you work behind them.

Here are two patterns that have you work a row of chain stitches and then work behind those to create an effect that is really super

Thank you all for the info. I have read through most of the articles. CrankyCrocheter....I will have to look at that link later...it keeps saying the site was hacked and will be back when it's fixed.

I have made some baby booties where I worked into the front or the back loops to make a ridge to add ruffles onto later but I did learn other things from that article so thanks!

Darski...thanks for those projects to try. I will try them out tomorrow to see if I can get the gist of it. Thanks!
