Cradle Purse Hood - Help!!!

MsSuzKelly

Question

I am working on my second purse - using this pattern http://www.geocities.com/crotiques/origcradle.htm

Please tell me row #4 has a typo or something. I have read, and re-read and it's just not clicking. My hood looks awful!! All of the patterns there have basically the same directions for the hood...

So, what am I doing wrong? the (skip next dc, dc in next dc) 5 times is what is getting me. after you do that, you still have stitches left so I went ahead and just did that (skip, dc) til I got to the hdc. And it doesn't look right at all.

thanks!!

I tried this too and it is just sooooooo far past ugly that I wouldn't show it to a little girl for fear of scaring (scarring :wlol) her.

I even tried making it work my way and it still doesn't look like the picture.

I think it needs to be built up more slowly with sc and hdc with a fe dc for a while and more rows to make it move higher.

I'll try a couple of other ways and get back to you.

did you email the author to ask about this? There is a typo in that line and it is confusing as written.

sorry, just not able to help at this point.

I am so sorry, I can't make this work at all as written and I don't know how she got it to look like that picture. what I would do is make a separate piece and stitch it onto the cradle.

:sigh

I tried this pattern last year and gave up because of that hood not looking like it was suppsoed to!!. I finally bought an Annies attic pattern off of ebay and it turned out beautifully. Here is an ebay link to the pattern I did.http://cgi.ebay.com/annies-attic-crochet-dolly-tote-and-doll-pattern-book_W0QQitemZ200115883218QQihZ010QQcategoryZ11697QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

To hopefully save you from some hunting:

Here's a couple of links for cradle purses with a hood pattern that you might be able to use instead of what is in Abigail's pattern:

I had the same problem with this pattern (original post). I don't know if anyone is still interested, but this is what I did and it does work:

Row 4: Skip next hdc, hdc in next dc, and repeat to end. (9sts)

Row 5: SC in first st, sk 1 st, hdc in next, dec next 3 sts tog, hdc in next, sk 1 st, sc in top of chain.

It's the first cradle purse I'd ever made, so I didn't know if it was me or the pattern that was wrong, so I just kept fiddling with it till it came out right! It does look pretty when it's finished. It's a really easy pattern, I'm not experienced and even I can get it done in next to no time.
