King Size Afghan - How Many Skeins?

Approximately how many skeins of yarn does it take to make a king size afghan?

it really depends on the pattern and on the weight of yarn you are looking to use. i did the afghan of the sandman from www.crochetgarden.com in worsted weight yarn for my king size bed and used 6 1/2 pounds of yarn for it.

when you think of yarn in pounds it sure makes it sound heavy...

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but it tells how many squares are needed for various projects: http://www.planetshoup.com/easy/tips/afghsize.shtml. Maybe if you do a square and compare it to these figures, it'll give you an idea as to how many skeins you'll need.

Wow, 6 1/2 pounds does sound heavy.

I did a simple king-size afghan for DH, and I used about 16 skeins of RHSS 7-oz, so that works out to about 6 lbs. That does sound heavy!
