let this be a lesson to me...

To check my gauge, even with thread!

I crochet really tightly no matter what. I usually move up a hook size or two, but with thread I've found that with #10 thread, a 1.5-1.6mm hook works okay. Until now, it hasn't been too much of a problem with thread, but I've mostly been working motifs and bookmarks.

I finished doily #11 from Leisure Arts' Big Book of Little Doilies. It was supposed to be 4.5" when complete.

Mine? 3" !

[and man! the twisted tr was a total pain! neat stitch though.]

It feels wrong to call it my first doily, it's so small. <img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif" />

For some reason I could not see the doily/coaster. :shrug

Anyway, I read somewhere, that if you are having trouble with tension, there is a simple solution.

Now I don't know if it works, but here it is.:shrug

String an old ring that fits onto your thread, put the ring on your finger and start to work. The ring is suppose to help with the tension of the thread. I haven't tried it with thread, but it is suppose to work. I have used it for yarn, I also crochet tight.

Can't hurt to try it.

Hope it works or you find a better way.

When the posts got migrated, some of the image links didn't come over quite right.

Here's the tiny tiny doily:

I think I read about this before as a trick to help keep tension constant. Since I don't have trouble keeping my tension constant, I didn't think to try it. But, I think I'll try this tonight and see if it makes a difference! :hook

Thanks, Mary Jo! :ty
