Here they are. They are a little beaten up- my 4yod has played pretty hard with these, and Sharon has since learned the merit of weaving LONG tails.

I'm amazed! That is just fantastic!

Both of my sons learned and did something as simple as a granny square but it never held their interest.

Oh yeah, she does. When she was 8 she did a lapsized giant granny, some charity squares, and a bunch of "messing around"- then proceded to make some 8" dolls with interchangeable dresses....... WITHOUT A PATTERN. Yup. I was SOOOO proud. She gave one away, but I'l ask her where the other ones are and post a pic (since you asked....:manyheart ) She read every pattern book I had about different stitches and practiced. How many 8yo's do you know discuss the merits of X-stitch over V-stich when a more solid fabric is desirable??? (Then again, she read the entire Little House series when she was 5. Her nickname is Encyclopedia Blonde. She's a freak of nature.)

Your 9 year old crochets?

"parents of crocheting kids" would be a great idea for a thread! Does anyone know if one already exists? I am teaching my 11 year old to crochet and she is starting her first "real project" when she gets back from her dad's

Neat Blankie, Candy! Did you use an edgery-do? I am so intrigued by this type of blankie (especially since I have a bunch of fleece in the closet!) but I'm too cheap to ante up for the tool.

That's great about your daughter! What project is she going to do? Mine gets bored so easily and I am really concerned about "turning her off"- I just pretty much let her pick her projects at this point. I'm thinking she would love to do a fleecy since they are so quick. Hmm, I might have to pay up after all!

Thanks Julie! I didn't use any special tool, I don't know what an edgery-do is, maybe I should look it up for the next one LOL . I used a mat I got at Walmart with measurements on it (to cut quilting squares) and a circular cutter. Then I punched a small hole (using the pointy part of a seam ripper) 1/4" from the corner and in 1" intervals after that until I got 1/4" from the edge again on the other side. I took a the crochet hook and ran it through all of the holes to stretch them out a little.

There are a couple of patterns for young crocheters in one of my magazines this month. She hasn't decided which one yet. I tried to teach her a couple of years ago, but I was pushing her, she was ready. She's seen me do a bunch of new projects lately and now she is pushing me to teach her. It's great, it gives us a lot of QT, but I only do it when she inquires, I don't want to turn her off of it like I did before.

LOL..........okay I went and looked up an "edgery-do" really quickly and I'm back.

How funny is it that halfway thru this project, I went and bought plexiglass and had my dad cut it to size and drill hole in it, so that I could use it for my next project.:hook

To bad someone else already invented it, I could'a been rich :(

I finished my 3rd pair of 16oz skeins this weekend. Me and my hubby went to NYC to renew my passport and from there we went to visit his father in Philadelphia, so I had a lot of crochet time on the train. I am going to buy more yarn today, because it is not as long as I want it yet. I thought about the trim color, and I think I am going with a milk chocolate kind of color. Something like Caron Perfect Match Taupe. But I will see what they have at the store when we get there. Blanket now measures a little more than 65".

They are so cute! How will they be joined?

Like this. I hope to make a full afghan instead of a bunch of squares, if you scroll down, there's my inspiration! :hook

I've reached 101 yoyos.....Yay! Over 1/5 there! (that is, if 500's enough. I'm starting to think I'll need more.)

I just started the kittens in a row last night...I'm only on row 2.

Nuts...I thought you really were nuts until I saw that finished afghan. Now I want to make one!

Julie- Your daughter is a future designer of 'crochet couture'! She does an excellent job!

Candy- Great job on that blanket! My hubby would LOVE that!

Mel- Very pretty afghan! and congrats :clap on its completion!

BJ- That is a lovely design! I can't wait to see it done!

I have completed 14-1/4 squares on my 16 square comfortghan. Its moving along so darn quick! That is a good thing, I'm not complaining! I really want to start one of Krystal's daisy square afghans this week. BJ I'll let you know when I start that one so you can add it.

I finally finished all the squares for the third color. So far I have 59 out of 158 squares completed and 3 out of 8 colors completed.

Squares take forever but they are coming out really nice.:hook

Finished square 15. Am three rows away from finishing square 16 (altho I just went ahead and counted it in my signature) Then I will be doing the edging. Hoping to complete today. Unfortunately Grandma's prayer shawl keeps jumping into my hands everytime I pass it.....

Way to go! I'll update the first post.

I'm sorry I don't have more time to respond to everybody's posts. I am only home briefly today and then back to church camp. I took my green and white with me and have worked on it a bit when time was available.

Hi!

You know, I just realized I don't post very much. I generally get on, read some threads, and maybe post once or twice. And I LIKE to talk.

Anyway...

I joined an entire row a few days ago (actually watching Court Jester, not Pinocchio) which means I have 6 out of 7 rows done. But I told myself that I wouldn't join any more until I wove in all the ends. Then I go to weave in the ends while watching pinocchio and my needle had disappeared (and with it my stich markers :( I keep them in the same case)

That's my excuse for not having it done on the 4th. I did tell some people that I'd show it to them at the church picnic on the 7th, though. Oh well, better find out whether my sister has one I can use LOL.

wow, Candy! that fleece thing is COOL! The picture hadn't loaded when I started typing the first post so I just saw it. Boy, now I've got to make me one. Did you use a pattern? How much fleece did you use? Were you using that Edgerydoo thingy or whatever it is?

(pardon all the questions, but I just have to have one of those)

I finished my blanket yesterday and I am so pleased with the way it looks. Now I only have the fringes left and I will do that today, so I will have some pictures and finished measurements for you later tonight :)

Fringes are the DEVIL! I have to make over 700 of them. That will be alot of measuring and cutting

Please do! I am so excited about it! I am following the mixed media designs pattern out of Crochet World June 07 "Fleece Afghan". I can't wait to show it to everyone:hook

Thanks :hook

I only kind of follow patterns, :blush I use them as more of a guide than anything. I used one yard of polar fleece.

4dc in each hole

4dc 3ch 4dc in each corner

use your prefered way of joining squares

sc border on 1st round

whatever type of decorative border that you prefer for the 2nd round

Let me know if you need assistance.

It really is fabulous, I made it for my Dad's "room" in the garage where he is his NASCAR, car collectibles, and military stuff. It hasn't made it out there yet. I has it on his recliner in the house, I may have to make him another one for his room now:D
