quick and simple space saver beret

my mom recently challenged me to make her a beret that

 

1) wouldn't mess up her hair

2) be super warm b/c CT winters can be brutal

3) can fit in her small purse w/o taking up lots of space.

 

she bought me a skein of wool-ease ww in black and i designed a very cute beret with a ribbed brim. the whole hat is crochet and is based on a beret design i came up with years ago but never wrote down until recently.

 

here she is modeling her new hat in our front entry

 

the hat meets all three requirements. and the best part, once it's folded into quarters, the hat takes up a tiny bit of space in her purse.
