Can anyone make a suggestion on a pattern

that would normally be used for a doily or thread crochet thing that I could use to make coasters? I'd like to make a set of coasters for a friend but I don't want to just do a regular round deal ...

I've made that doily as well, and it really is very easy!! I used baby sport weight yarn and a f hook and it came out to the largest size i belive.
