PA Newspaper Article

Alas, perceptions such as this are very hard to change (that anything not "manly" is gay or effeminate). My brothers all went to the all boys Catholic school in my town (as did many of my friends 10 years later) and they were all made fun of (called "gay" by students and teachers alike) for being interested in music and playing in the school's marching band.

 

Many of my friends later went to my high school (formerly all girls, but newly co-ed when I was there) just to escape that attitude - then they were still referred to as "gay".

 

sigh....

 

I've always been interested in both dolls and Tonka trucks.

Thanks for sending me these links. I checked out the forum and, wow, I am really surpised how many peole this article offended. I thought the article portrayed crocheting in a positive light, but obviously, my perception was not shared by everyone. Anyway, I wanted to let you, and others know, I got the message. I'll make sure in the future I more thoroughly think through the possible reactions to stories.
