Do You follow patterns exactly?

Honestly... I don't ever follow directions on a pattern or a recipe either. I really have been going by measurements lately for projects. I have been getting a lot of use out of my Crochet stiches Bible.

99% of the time... NO I do not follow a pattern...

I guess it doesn't matter though, because about 99% of patterns I've seen have mistakes anyway!!! ;)

I feel a pattern is a template to get you to the finished product... not the end all be all holy grail of crochet... A pattern is a collection of stitches in a certain order/combination... How many times have people changed a pattern to make a larger version? It is actually pretty easy to do so in most cases... We've added a stitch here... added a few rows there...

I get inspiration from patterns, but I tend to just dive in with designing.... actually it's more like making it up as I go. I think part of being creative is adding your touch/preferances to what ever it be... patterns, recipes, clothing (I'm nuts about altering clothing) etc.
