Lifetime Crocheter

Suztoy

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here but not new to crochet.  Mom taught me when I was 8 or 9 - a very long time ago.  Actually 60+ years ago and I've been crocheting ever since.

I'm currently working on an entry for our Fair and need help.  I am crocheting with 100% rayon thread and the pattern directions say to block with heat from a hairdryer and not to wet the thread.  Is there anyone who's done this??

Welcome to Crochetville from the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Grab your yarn and hooks, put your feet up and sit a spell.

Welcome Suztoy!  I've gone thru miles of cotton doily thread making doilies, and a ball of linen (kinda limp for doilies, but OK), but never have used rayon thread.

I think the recommendation is due to possible shrinkage (I know I had a rayon item shrink ridiculously, I can't remember if it was after washing or drying), and this article says either water OR heat can do it.  If I were you I'd make a little test piece, or 2 maybe, and see what happens first.
