Help! It's difficult to use this t-shirt yarn

I bought this t-shirt yarn from Etsy. It turns out that the t-shirt yarn using size 12 mm hook is very difficult to use. It seems to have no "give" like yarn usually does. It's so stiff. Is this typical of t-shirt yarn or is it a unique characteristic of this particular yarn? Am I using the wrong hook size? I remember I did try the size 15 mm hook but still had difficulty...

Never used it but most likely its stiff so sides of baskets will not flop over.

^Agree, this style of yarn is more for something that is supposed to be sturdy and somewhat stiff--like the bowl shown in your link, or a rug.

Example, just googling around I found this book for T-shirt yarn projects--nothing soft and squishy to be seen on the cover.
