Crochet stitch numbers

Dayl

Question

I am crocheting a simple blanket. Started at 99 chains across. Going to do a row of half doubles then row os doubles. It keeps going from 99 stitches to 98 stitches. On half double I chain three after turn to start the double row. What am I doing wrong?

Its important to know where to make your first and last stitches and how to count the turning chain.  You will always have fewer stitches in a row than your starting chain unless you make increases somewhere. Each row should have the same number of stitches unless you are increasing or decreasing somewhere.  This should help.

Thanks for posting that Bgs, what a great reference!!

Yes, that is a great link for reference. I was just on her website a little while ago looking for something else. Edie Eckman has great tips and patterns.

Tip: Place a stitch marker in the row's first and last stitch, moving the markers up after each row is completed.
