Mobius question

Cordelia

Question

I cant think of how to word this were it makes sense...but I want to make a mobius type scarf. I have looked online for patterns and only found one I like and will fall back on if needed....however since I want to wing it my first go..I am wondering if once the base chain is made do you increase as you add rows or is it all one width, constant. Man, I hope that made sense...:think And is it advisable to make the scarf in rounds or seamed together after you obtain your desired width?

Thanx in advance....I know the answers are probably in the patterns I've found...but frankly, I can't make heads or tails of anything tonight.:(

Okay, first there are not increases, you work a steady number of stitches into the base chain.

Most of the crochet patterns have you crochet a rectangle and then seam it when you are finished into the mobius twist. I prefer the ones that are stitched in a mobius pattern and I winged one myself cause I could find one that wasn't seamed at the time. I crocheted the base in sc foundation chain, then carefully laid it out flat being sure there was NO twist to the sc-chain. Then I I took the beginning of the sc-chain and flipped it over. Then I slip stitched the end to the flipped beginning being careful not to give it any more twist. Then I did a hdc I believe steadily around and when you get back to the beginning you should be on the opposite side of your first hdc, and I just continued, by stitching into the bottom of the existing st.

I just use scarf patterns to the length I want. Do the twist and single crochet the ends together. I have made several and plan on making several more for family and myself in different colors. I love mobius scarves. Good luck!

i've done both, seemed the ends together once finished and in the round. an alternate for the chain is to do a foundationless dc strip, as shown at http://home.comcast.net/~gandal195/MoebiusShawlPattern.htm. i've made a few of these, using this pattern and love how they turned out.

Darn. Was that a kind of fuzzy, lacy moebius? I think I've been looking for that page and it doesn't seem to be there anymore.

I would really like to try that one, too. What yarn did you use?

i've used a few different ones. my favorite was the white zephyr yarn and another that was much more bulky, a wool and nylon blend. i also made a few moebius headbands using acrylic yarns and they've turned out pretty cute too. i think that pattern is at fuzzy galore.

That pattern in that link is one of the ones I eyeballed....However I wanted more of a feel like this: Elizabeth's Mohair Mobius made by ThreeOliveMartini..

I like the very Milady look....soft shells to boot... So now to find a stitch I like and go for it....I guess length should be called into question and width if ones may purpose was to be a head covering that could be pulled down to be a becoming scarf....

Thanx for the links and advice....:hook
