You might check to see if there are any crochet groups near you. There are lots of videos on line with instructions for different stitches and specific patterns, too. There are lots of crochet books that you might buy or check out from your local library. Most have a section for basic stitches. Crochet takes a certain amount of practice to master holding your yarn and hook and learning the stitches, and of course, you are working with hand problems also. Try to just relax and have fun with the process of learning. and practicing.

There are all sorts of resources on the internet, here are a couple that are really useful - I've linked to the menu topic page so you can explore.  Note, these are in US terminology...for some reason as crochet terms evolved, present UK terms were used by both the US and UK until sometime in the 1920s (US patterns from WW1 were in UK terms, but by 1930s US terms seem to be established) The US terms sort of 'demoted' themselves; 

Chain and Slip stitch - same meaning for both

US Single Crochet = UK Double Crochet  

US Double Crochet = UK Treble Crochet

and so on.
