Welcome back to Crochetville and to crocheting!

C2C = corner to corn

Magic ring is a way of starting a ring.  You can put as many stitches in round 1 that you'd like, and then pull the tail tight to close.

There are some great youtube videos on both techniques.  I'd list a link, but there are so many to chose from.

(Personally, I struggle with the magic ring.  Instead, I start with a twist in the yarn, rather than a slip knot.  I then chain for height (1 for sc, etc.).  Next I do my first round in the original twist, catching the tail in the stitches.  When round 1 is done, I pull the tail tight to close.)

For the magic ring/adjustable ring, just make a loose slip knot, like an inch around, and Don't put it on the hook. Reach under the ring, grab the yarn, and slip stitch over the ring (and tail), and continue with your pattern in the round. Later, you can pull it as loose or tight as you want. Be sure to leave a generous tail to weave in.

The tutorials confused me at first until I realized that was all there was to it.

adding to what Sharon said--

often when a pattern is called c2c it is diagonal box (or block or brick) stitch http://www.crochetspot.com/how-to-crochet-corner-to-corner-diagonal-box-stitch/

http://www.crochetcabana.com/html/specialstitches1.html

like Sharon I have a hard time with magic loop.  Edie Eckman has a variation of it, a double loop, that works better for me.  you can see it in the look inside feature of one of her books on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/1603429735/ref=pe_152050_26208530_pe_vfe_dp4

pg 12-13, it's called sliding loop there.  this method was originated in Japan.  Crochet World also has a nice tutorial http://www.crochet-world.com/blog/?p=7618     it's a cool method but sometimes i find it's just easier to make a loop of a few chains than to fiddle with all this "magic" stuff.   :lol

as you are searching online for info, be aware there is a knitting method called magic loop.   magic ring or sliding loop may be more specific terms to look for.
