child's backpack

Question

Hello!  I would like to crochet a backpack for each of my nieces but would like it to have a bit more structure than probable with regular yarn.  Does anyone have a suggestion as to what material I can use that would be stiffer than regular yarn and not cost a fortune and comes in various colors?

Thank you very much for your help!

regards,

Cindy

Good Morning.  This pattern for a little girls' backpack uses Red Heart Super Saver (tons of colors) but if you'll notice, it requires a G/ hook. This size hook gives a density needed for durability. I too would line the inside with fabric to prevent small objects from slipping through stitches and preventing stretch.
