How to Join Afgan Strips

heytheremere

Question

http://www.purplekittyyarns.com/afghan-patterns/cm776/pinal-afghan-pattern

I found this really cool vintage pattern but I don't know how to join the strips together so that you can't see the yarn that I am going to use to join them together. Also, any ideas on how to fill in those gaps between the strips so that the edges aren't all pointy?

Thank you!

It looks to me like they used the mattress stitch to piece them together.  It's used for joining both crochet and knit pieces.  There are several videos out there that show how this stitch is done.  I'm not providing a link, because I haven't found one that I really like.

You can always contact the designer and ask what she used to piece them together.

I agree, mattress stitch for this particular pattern since you want the seam to be as hidden as possible.  It's a little trickier in crochet than in knitting, so you'll want to look at crochet tutorials: it's time consuming but it does work nicely.

Here is one (non video) link, which links to other (video) tutorials
