First- please remove the link, it is against the forum guidlines to post an entire pattern here--regardless if it is free.  It is however OK to link to it like so http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/market-bag-26

Having said that, I don't speak French.  You might try to capture text and run it through Google translate.  It won't be perfect, but you should be able to catch the drift of it.

Here is a site that gives translations for crochet terms in multipe languages http://www.crochetmemories.com/language.html

However, I think I'd pick another pattern in English - there are so many similar patterns in Ravelry. You might consider one with more substantial handles than the French pattern - while dainty looking, they also seemed flimsy, and would probably cut in to your hand or shoulder as you carried stuff around in the bag.

Thanks .... I will remove the link ...... didn't know and just figured if it wasn't a copyright it would not be an issue.  I've made several of these, modifying the straps making them wider for that very reason.  Just wanted to try something different.

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tuck-away-tote

It's a PDF file and I can't copy and paste so it's not possible to use google translation.

the diagram is pretty self explanatory.  you start in the center, where the 1 is.  Chain 80, then work around in the filet pattern.  If you aren't already familiar with the symbols, here is a key http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/chart_crochet.html

i don't have much time right now but i will try to check in later and see if you need help with the diagram.

Total newbie with reading diagrams.  I'm going on vaca next week and wanted to bring a portable project with me.  Internet will probably not be available, I guess I could muddle through it if need be.  Well at least I know it's a chain 80 .......... LOL.  What weight, type of yarn/thread are they using?  It's a tote I guess it doesn't matter much either.

I really need something "mindless" to do ........ after all it is a vaca.  I could take my bathmat motif with me. Thanks for your offer.

Some PDF files are locked so you can't 'grab' text, to copy and paste, this one isn't locked.  I was able to get it to work, although the result was sort of amusing in spots. I like the description of chains as 'stitches in the air'.

The hook and yarn weight are on the Ravelry 'title page' - 3 mm hook, sport yarn, 360 meters per the pattern.  Here's a link to the yarn used http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/lang-yarns-quattro

My PDF would not let me grab the text.  Might be my browser??

I have sport weight yarn I've been using for the other totes.

It looks like I chain 80, make a dc in 6th ch from the hook? * then ch 3, skip 3 ch,  dc in the next stitch*.  Just guessing that I should repeat ** to the end of the row?  Then I'm totally lost.

OMG ........ I might be able to do this with your help!

Yeah!!! They all say that.

And to the OP, just because it doesn't have any copyright written on it and it is free, the copyright belongs to the person who created it.

That's right.  then when you get to the last chain and you have put a dc there, next you ch 3  and again dc into the last chain of the 80, chain 3 and another dc in same spot.  that is your "corner"  Now you will be working down the opposite side of the initial chain80.  So you continue there with the chain 3, skip 3 chains, dc.    You will be putting dc into the same chains that you already dc'ed into, but now from the opposite side of the chain.  When you get to the other end, slip stitch into the 2nd chain after the dc.  then chain 6, and dc into thevery  first dc you made.

Thanks, I will try to absorb this tomorrow ....... when I don't have lots of other stuff going on.

Please use what I wrote as a guide to the diagram...i'm not sure it makes sense if you don't have the illustration to go with it!  :P

I printed out the pattern and will try to match it to the diagram.  This will help me in the "learning" process of reading a picture/diagram pattern .......... very much appreciated.

I finally figure out how to copy from the PDF and used Google translator ............. yes, it's quite amusing.  It still needs work and I've yet to put all this into a tote bag.

If you have Word 2010 you can translate it to English.  I just tried it and it worked.

No unfortunately, I only have the home basic free version.  I'll give it a try though .... thanks for the suggestion.
