crochet angels

I've crocheted an angel but need a form to stretch it across to starch it properly. I've been to a couple craft stores and can't find the right size. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If the angel is a round type--you can use a styrofoam cone --if it's flat you can use sheet type styrofoam...

If you cannot find a Styrofoam or plastic cone you can make your own cone shape with poster board (stapled), stuff the inside then cover it with Saran wrap.

What size is the angel?  Sometimes they shrink when you startch them.  I use both the cones and the flat styro foam board.  Bothe are covered with syran wrap.

 

You may be better off with making your own cone.

Unless it's really huge, you could probabably make a cone with printer paper, or any scrap paper of similar weight covered with plastic wrap, it doesn't need to be super sturdy.  I've used wax paper alone, it's stiff enough.  No need to go out and buy something special.

Depending on the size, either the top of a 2-liter soda bottle or a 20-ounce may work. Dr. Pepper 20-oz. bottles have conical tops. In fact, if you want to make tree top angels, the cut-off bottles make good bases that will stay on the top branch.
