Love this stitch and was wondering if anyone knows what it is as I am fairly new to crochet and want to use it ?   Thanks in advance

Apparently it is just single crochet but I have no idea how to make them alternate from the bottom ?

Is that worked between the stitches on the previous round, rather than into them? That produces a similar look.

Could this be a woven stitch (this stitch has many names) with 2 or more strands held together?. 

 

SC, chain 1.  Next row SC over the chain st, ch 1.  Repeat.  Here's a pic using a single strand
