crocheted table top charm

Hello I've been working on this doily from crochet magazine, Jan.2013 and am having so much trouble. I get to rnd 7 and it starts ruffling. I can't figure out why it is doing this. I've been crocheting for over 20 yrs. This pattern is making me want to give up. I've worked and reworked it for the past month. Please help.

hi ya, can't h elp much, but two rules about working in rounds, if it ruffles, you have too many stitches in a round, and if it cups, you don't have enough, that's all i know, lol hope it helps!

Is it a pineapple doily?  Those are known for ruffling before they straighten out.

 

Sometimes you just have to work the next 3 or 4 rounds to see if it'll flatten.  Sometimes they do.

If so i agree with Rosered, looks like parts could be really ruffly until you finish and block it.

If that's the pattern - it'll be a rumpled up mess before it's done.

 

My Grandmother always taught me to give a gentle tug to line up the stitches and smooth it out as you work on it.  This way it'll lay flatter and you can see the design forming.

I have made that pattern - it will block out.  My issue with it is the gauge, I had to go up to a C hook and it was still way too small.  I ended up improvising repeats of the last two sets of pineapples.
