Knit in a row???

crochetingfool

Question

Has anyone ever used one of those do hickies that look like two rows of sticks that you wrap the yarn around ...then loop the yarn over the post and it's suppose to look like a knitted garment?

I bought one today at Michael's and for the life of me can't figure out how to do it...I've wrapped the yarn around and around tried to follow the instructions and just can't do it.

Does anyone have one? With pictures of how to do it?

Thanks

Linda :hook

I don't have one but just by looking at it I think it works like the spool knitting I used to do as a kid, we used to call it corking. I would imagine you loop the yarn around the hooks and then on the knitting type row you would lay the yarn flat along the outside of the hooks and loop the starting row up and over the yarn and into the middle of the hoop. That would be the 1st row and you continue around like that........Oh boy it sounds so complicated, but if you ever did the spool knitting or corking it will be easy :think

Oh wow, I have not done that in AGES! I used to make stuff as a kid but I can't remember at all how it's done now. I know that once you get it though it will be so simple and it will be like second nature to do it! Don't give up!

Linda, I'm not really sure if you are talking about the spool to make I-cord like mimi-mia is thinking, or if you are talking about hairpin lace. hairpin lace, after wrapping the yarn, you use a crochet hook to work up through the middle between your wraps. Is that what you are talking about?

If it is the long loom, I do have one and do have instructions for it.

You wrap the yarn in a figure 8 pattern between the two rows. PM me with your email address and I can take pictures or scan the instructions and send them to you. It is really pretty simple. I believe you can also work it similar to the circular knifty knitters to create a longer panel.

I have a couple of the round knitting looms. I did lots of web searching to find patterns and such. Of the things I found, the Decor Accents site was really good. They have movies even of how to do the stitches:

http://decoraccentsinc.com/knittingloommovies.html

(I also remember the Provo Craft site too!)

I also joined two Yahoo groups that do loom knitting:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Knitting_Without_Needles/

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rakeknitting/

they have lots of helpful people there, pictures of projects they've done, patterns, links, etc. :)
