how do i read a pattern

Hello Everyone,

 

this may sound a really silly question but im getting stuck on reading a pattern! I know all the terms of the stitches etc its just when it comes the ( Brackets) and the * stars* i get stuck as i dont know what they mean. can anyone explain to me please.

 

Iv crocheted 5 hats now with out a pattern, but would love beable to do something different

I also recommend Crochet Cabana's "reading patterns" page. It helps explain the brackets and the stars.

Pick a pattern that has the brackets or stars AND a really nice pictue of the finished item. That way if you get lost you can refer to the picture to help you "see" what they mean!
