Size F hook (3.75mm)
Stitch marker
2 Pony beads for butterfly’s eyes (optional)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish size: 3 ¼”h 9counting antennas) x 3”w (counting wings)

Notes:

Finger puppet is worked in a continuous spiral; do not join unless instructed to.

With Stitch Marker mark first st of each Rnd, moving it up as you go along.

Different Stitches:

Beaded Sc: Insert hook in specified st, yarn over, pull up a loop, take this loop off hook, slide bead onto loop, then insert hook back into loop, yarn over and pull thru both loops on hook.

Sc Decrease next 2 sts together: [insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up a loop] Do this 2 times, yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops on hook.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With black leaving a tail ch5, 1 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sl st in each of the next 2 chains, ch4, 1 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sl st in each of the next 2 chains, 6 sc in first chain of ch5 crocheting over tail, skip antennas, 1 sc in next sc.
(6 sc + 2 antennas)

Pull tail taut to close hole from starting.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each of the next 6 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 3: 1 sc in each of the next 12 sts.
(12 sc)

Rnd 4: 1 sc in next st, Beaded Sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, Beaded Sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts.

Finish off and weave in ends.

Wings:

Flatten Butterfly’s body so the eyes are on one side. The side with the eyes is the front of the Butterfly; the other side is the back.

Wing 1:

Row 1: With the back side of butterfly facing you join wing color with sl st to 1 st on Rnd 8 onto left side of butterfly, ch1, 1 sc in same spot, going up the butterfly’s body 1 sc in each of the following Rnds: Rnds 7, 6, 5, and 4 working into left side of butterfly, ch2 and turn.
(5sc)

Row 2: 5 dc in last sc made, skip next sc, sl st in next sc, skip next sc, 4 dc in next sc, ch2, sl st in same st.

Finish off and weave in ends.

Wing 2:

Row 1: Join wing color with sl st to 1 st on Rnd 4 onto right side of butterfly, ch1, 1 sc in same spot, going down butterfly’s body 1 sc in each of the following Rnds: Rnds 5, 6, 7, and 8, ch2 and turn.

Materials:

Worsted Weight yarn in red and black.
Size F hook (3.75mm)
Stitch Marker
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size:

Notes: Finger puppet is worked in a continuous spiral; do not join unless instructed to.

With Stitch Marker mark first st of each Rnd, moving it up as you go along.

Different Stitches:

Dc Popcorn St: 5 dc in specified st, take hook out of loop, insert hook in first dc (of 5 dc), insert hook back into dropped loop, pull loop thru dc and ch1 to finish st.

Sc Decrease next 2 sts together: [insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up a loop] Do this 2 times, yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops on hook.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With red leaving a tail ch2, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook crocheting over tail.
(6sc)

Pull tail taut to close hole from starting.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each of the next 6 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 3: 1 sc in each of the next 12 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 4: 1 sc in each of the next 12sts.
(12sc)

*Rnd 5 (optional): Sl st in front loop only of each of the next 12 sts, join with sl st to first st.
(12 sl sts)

Finish off Red and weave in ends.

*Note: (If you did Rnd 5) The next Rnd (Rnd 6) will feel a little awkward due to working Rnd 5. If you find it to awkward you can skip Rnd 5 and fasten off Red on Rnd 4. Then work Rnd 6 in back loops only of the stitches made from Rnd 4.

Rnd 6: Join black leaving a very long tail (for embroidering spots) with a sc to any back loop (left free from working Rnd 5 in front loops only), 1 sc in each of the next 5 back loops, Dc Popcorn St in next back loop, 1 dc in each of the next 5 back loops.
(11sc, 1 Dc Popcorn St)

Rnd 7: [Sc decrease next 2 sts together, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] Do this 3 times.
(9sc)

Rnd 8: Sl st in each of the next 9 sts, join with sl st to first sl st.
(9 sl sts)

Finish off.

With long tail (from joining black) embroider a line down the middle of lady bug’s back and then embroider some spots onto lady bug.

Weave in ends.

For Antennas cut a 3” to 4” inch piece of black yarn. Tie the yarn (make sure ends are even) around post of the middle dc on the Dc Popcorn St. Trim to desire length or knot tips of antennas to keep yarn from fraying.
