One ball=one skein?

that is why i like yardage. cause every maker and every yarn has different yardage in their balls/skeins

As Beth said, that's definitely the way to make sure that you're accurate. It might take some converting, or a little research, but it would suck to run out of yarn, too.

An example that I'm thinking of - right now I'm making a sweater that calls for 24 balls of Goddess Yarns Ellen @ 81 yds/ball... Since I cannot afford to spend $200 on yarn for one sweater, I substituted LB's Wool-Ease @ 197 yds/skein... a little math and I figured out I'd need 10 skeins of Wool-Ease, saving myself about $175.

If you follow at pattern as written and use the yarn they call for you shouldn't have any problem 1 ball = 1 skein, but if you use a different yarn you should go by weight of the ball eg: grams,oz or yards. I hope that helps :hook
