I need help in figuring out what type of yarn I bought

Hi, I bought a grab bag of asst. yarns, nice ones, nice colors, but I wonder how I can tell if it's wool. Isn't there a way of testing the end with a lit match?? I really don't want to asume it's yarn and then find out it's not and I really don't want to crochet a piece and wash it, I guess I want a magic way of finding out! lol thanks..................Lise:hook

do u have a pic of what you bought is it kinda rough or soft?

If the yarn is cotton, it will burn to ashes. If its acrylic, it will melt. As for wool yarn, take a 12" strand and soak it in hot water. If it is wool then it should shrink. It works for me. Good luck.

Thank you for all your help. That chart is really interesting and I'll try that, probably will have to wait till monday and I can't wait to see what happens. I'll be sure to post it. I hadn't taken pics, since I bought it today, have my grandson for the night and tomorrow is beach day! This grandma is tired! haha thanks again

To see if it is wool take a small snip and place in dish with bleach. If it disolves it it wool.
