Crocheted wearable question

A question was asked and I didn't know the answer or there was even one, so here I am asking all my fellow crocheters.

A co-worker received a crocheted long sleeved shrug for a christmas present from her sister. (I've been after the pattern, since first sight ) Anyway, she asked if there was a way to avoid the little nubbies that are forming on the underside of the arms and wrist parts since she has worn it a few times.

So, does anyone know who to avoid them or fix them without destroying the clothing?

I use this on my sweaters to remove pills and 'nubbies'.

 

They are caused by friction so I'm not sure if there's a way to avoid getting them.

some yarns pill worse than others. There is no way to NOT get them. You either have to use a yarn that is known not to pill or remove them somehow.

If they are caused by friction, would using fabric softener reduce the effect of friction?
