Sideways Poncho Pattern

Does anyone have a Poncho pattern that is done sideways? I hate sewing pieces together as I make a right mess of my work and it doesn't look professional at all. I know Patons has one in a pattern book for kids, but I can't find the book anywhere in my area.

Have you ever considered trying to crochet the pieces together rather than sewing them? Something like a poncho pattern would be fairly easy to do this way... Just an idea you might want to think about.

Thank you both for your suggestions, I wanted to make a poncho with stripes coming down from the neck, I will just have to experiment (or keep on looking).

i made a poncho by working in a round and doing the extra stitches at 2 points for the front and back so it was all in one and it looks good.
