What would you use?

I am almost finished crocheting a bikini for DD who is 13. I need to line it so she can swim in it. But I have no Idea what kind of material to use. My sewing skills and experience are raw beginner...i can sew a straight line, own a sewing machine and know how to use it.

Help What can I use to line her suit?

This is from the instructions for a crochet bikini:

 

"You can line this with any light weight stretchable fabric. I always use lycra or nylon."

I'm not sure exactly the answer to your question. I just wanted to suggest that you be sure she gets the suit fully soaked and tries it out at home before she wears it out and about. I've heard some people say before that depending on the type of yarn they used, when fully soaked it didn't go so well in an embarrassing sort of way.

I would use some quick-drying, fabric with a little stretch like lycra or spandex etc. This will also help the bikini to hold its shape.

I've made many a bathing suits but only with bathing suit fabric (type of lycra). Otherwise the suit would be see-through- Don't want that!

You should be able to find the fabric since it is swim suit season. Oh! and don't forget the elastic for the leg openings and waistline. Less chance of the bottoms drooping or falling.
