Colors for a marine?

Our church is sending a box of things to a man from our church who left for Iraq about a month ago. I'm going to knit a dishcloth with a marines emblem on it (I know I saw that pattern somewhere) and I was wondering what color to use. I was thinking navy blue, would that be okay?

I think the Marines are green, can't remember, the Navy is blue....

I must agree. You would want to make it a green color. There is a pretty cool green camouflage yarn at Michael's right now. My DH is military, and even he liked it.

Thank you very much, I really had no idea. We're going to JoAnn's today (mom said she'd buy me some yarn to make dishcloths), and I'll look for something green.

Make sure and do cotton not acrylic for dishcloths, it works better, but I am sure you knew that.....

The Marine Crop colors are scarlet and gold. If you scroll down on this LINK it will tell you about it.

 

However green will also be just fine for a dishcloth!

Olive green, red maybe but it would probably bleed.

My husband is a former Marine. They wear dress blues for formal occasions and olive green for their other uniforms, but their colors are scarlet and gold.

Well, I got green, but unfortunately it's one of those brands of yarn that doesn't have a lot of 'straight colors' if you know what I mean, and what I ended up with was a sort of tropical yellow-green. Oh well.
