hook sizes

Recommended Posts

I won a bid for a Sensations hook M/13. I just received it today. It is BIGGER than my Boyle N/13. How can they both be 13s? Of course I didn't pay attention tothe 13 when I bid! Is there a difference in sizes between different brands? I would like to know before I bid on the Sensations L.

I may be wrong here, but I've noticed a difference. I usually crochet with

the metal Boye hooks -

I recently treated myself to some clear plastic ones -Red Heart Crystalites.

They come in a pack of 5, all different colors(I'm a sucker for stuff

like that- mesmerized by the colors!)

Anyway, I found that there was a difference in size between manufacturers.

I couldn't figure out why my gauge was so far off, so I measured the size on

one of those knit/swatch/ hook & needle measurement things. Yes. My G

was not a G.

Could have been packaging error? Maybe some worker went crazy with the

machine, and just stamped"G" on a bunch of hooks? Whatever the reason,

this "G" wasn't a "G".

i always go by mm sizes...

Me too. I have found that is easier. I use the Clover brand hooks, the ones with the cushion on them, they are flat and feel better in the hand.
