hobnail crochet

Question

I was looking through the latest "Annies Attic" catalog and the book "Hobnail Crochet" caught my eye. Here's the problem. What is hobnail crochet? I tried looking it up, but I couldn't find anything that said what it is or what it looks like. Could some one please fill me in? Thanks.

here is the definition of hobnail that i found: a small allover pattern consisting of small tufts, as on fabrics, or of small studs, as on glass.

i pulled up the picture of the catalog that you want. if you look at the pattern on the cover, i shows little studs, or puffs on the design of the lamp, bell, flower pot..., here's the pic if you dont have it handy

Hope that helps

you usually get the effect by working dc, sc across the row and then reversing them on the next row. the sc pulls the dc down so you get the tufted. bumpy look
