Question

I love this pattern http://www.purplekittyyarns.com/free-patterns/Baby-Blocks-LW1299.pdf
thanks to a thread from JulieKay a year ago ...
but even in this professional Coats and Clark photo the edges (on the long sides) are not as straight as I would like. My question is this: what could I do to make the finishing straighter?
At the junction of the points to the edge should I make a few dc instead of sc? Or make some sort of cluster thing-a-ma-bob instead of trying to perfect the edge at these points?
NanaM3:think
p.s. what's your opinion of trying this pattern with thread instead of yarn for a tablecloth?
