what size is embroidery floss in relation to crochet cotton

i have a project in mind that would involve mixing floss and crochet cotton

are the too close enough in size?

 

im talking about useing the floss whole, not split apart

the cotton id like to use is size 5 but i can buy another size

I think, from the top of my head, that 6 stranded floss like the DMC stuff is about a size.. umm.. I forget. I think a 10, maybe a 3. It's lovely to crochet with though, and all those colours! ya just need a lot of it as those skeins are quite small

I use a size 3 steel hook with embroidery floss and and E or F with cotton. It's thinner.

I recently made a bookmark out of embroidery floss, it is very close to size 10 thread. if there was a size 12 thread i think that would be it. It is not quite as fine as size 20 and not as thick as size 10. but it is lovely and I used only one skein to make a small squirrel bookmark. I hope this helps
