blanket sizes

Recommended Posts

How do you know how big to make the blanket? For example I am making a blanket for a friend of mine who is going to Iraq in October, but how big do I make it. I am doing 8in granny squares so how many by how many would make it big enough for him, but not too big. I am a planner, so I have to figure these things out before I start, it also helps with the colors I am using to know how much I need to buy.

Thanks for the help.

Well, the classic answer is: it depends.

I know, not much help there.

If he's going over with the military, you'd probably want it no bigger than a twin size blanket. He won't have a lot of space.

I'd probably make it something like 6' by 4' and it should be big enough to fit his bunk but not too big either. That and it's a good size for curling up on the couch in front of the TV with at home. I have to make mine bigger, because my DH is 6'7", so they end up about 7' long.

Using 8" squares, you might think of doing it 9 X 5 squares and then adding a nice 2" or more border. (I don't make ones with squares any more, I hate joining them....)

I hope this helps a little....
