Question

I am working on Square Elgance afghan for wedding present for my niece.
I am 10 inches into it and the length is 82 inches long. I don't have time to rip to make it shorter.
So how wide should I make it to make it look like it was supose to be that long? I don't want it to look like a giant scarf. Any help would be apprecaited.
