Beaded rope necklaces

Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for making beaded rope necklaces? I saw some that were crocheted with thin yarn, and I don't know what size beads to use.

A member in another forum suggested using size 8 beads for the first time and using Jean Stitch thread. A bead spinner is also handy to help in stringing on beads.
