"Circle Time" Rug

I really want to have a circluar rug for my daycare for "circle time". But they run like $300!!! Since I have so much yarn that was just given to me, I'd like to try to make a circular rug or similar.

 

Do I basically just keep increasing each row or is there a different way to do it?

Here's a pattern for a round rug. It's 33 inches diamter but if that's not big enough, just keep adding.

Also it's a clock, you don't have to add that if you don't want.

I think for a circle time rug, maybe you'd want to use rags and a Q hook - it would take FOREVER to do with just regular old worsted weight.

 

Also, at my daughter's school, they have a rectangular rug with a circle of square "spots" for the kids to sit on. It might be faster to just do a rectangle of the proper size, then sew on smaller squares, or just make smaller squares for each kid to use.

Or you could use 3-5 strands and the Q hook.

Thanks for the input. For additional information. I have 2-1year olds and a 3 yr old and an almost 6 yr old. So the 2, 1 year olds won't sit still yet for stories, so I'm hoping that I'll have time to make this before they do. Ya know?

Or a round ripple with two strands and an N hook...

I made my dad a ghan with 2 strands and a Q and I strongly suggest using 3. It's just way to easy to pull and snag and it stretches out really fast. You're gonna be using this for kids so I'd try to keep the pull/snag thing in mind.

 

If you want to use 2 strands a P hook might be your best bet.
