embelishment ideas

so, i was tyring to come up with new things to put on the purses/bags/scarves etc... that i make and was wondering what you all use to add a little something to your creations.

i am always trying out different things. One of them was zip pulls made from the beaded bracelet designed by a crochetville member. I also crochet sequins, beads into the design. Or I make a ruffly, scalloped edge using beads. A crochet flower is an obvious addition. Right now I am making sequin medallions to add to a bag.

I haven't gotten TOO creative yet... but I've added ribbons, crocheted flowers, and fabric bows to things so far. Of course, my lack of ability to GET certain things (like beads and sequins and such) probably has a lot more to do with that than anything.

I like recycling old belts and purses. I will go to Goodwill or Salvation Army and pick up old ones and cut off the buckles or and metal decoration and reuse. Or use the belts for handles or just as decoration stitched or woven through the bag. I will also cut teh handles off old handbags or purses (especially leather) and use those instead of buying new handles.

I have used vintage brooches pinned to the front of my purses. Rhinestone or plain gold or silver are nice.
