Lapghans

So my family is going up to New Jersey in a few weeks to visit my grandma. She lives in a nursing home now,and I want to crochet her a lapghan. I think she'll like to use it so she doesn't get cold when she's in her wheelchair, and I want it to brighten up her room! If anyone would like to share a nice pattern, I would be very grateful

You can take any afghan pattern, shorten it width and length wise and get yourself a lapghan from it. I've always thought the apache tears pattern was pretty. That link shows each row being a different color, but what I did was 12 rows of one color, then 12 rows another color, and 12 rows of a third color to give it a nicer solid look. Then repeat with the first color.

 

I hope you get lots of pattern ideas here!

I'm with Chelle. When I make a lapghan (and I've made a few), I take a pattern that I love, make it the same width, just a bit shorter.

I'm making the Apache Tears now using "crayon" box colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. It's turning our very nicely.

Well thought I would put in my two sense. I am doing a granny square one from here and they work up quickly. and someone else posted this pattern which you could make smaller but it is really pretty also. Anyway hope this helps. I don't help much cause there are so many better helpers here but was in to it today.

the diagonal box stitch would be perfect... because you determine the size as you go. there is a tutorial for it somewhere - i'll search and post in a sec...

this is a blankie i am making for one of my boys....shows color variation

this is a square that has been completed and is now part of a purse this is how it looks in one color.

you can make rectangles with this pattern, too

 

EDIT: well, i thought i new where that tutorial was, but i guess i was wrong.... anyone else remember?

Here is a site with an awesome lapghan. Ignore the colors this one is in and let your imagination take you where you want it to go. It's a variation of the ripple pattern. I made it to go in my car (because my husband likes it cold and I chill very easy). I did mine to match my car's color (burgundy, pink and light grey). Perfect size to keep your lap and legs warm
