How close to deadlines do you get?

I am usually good with beating my deadlines, but these past few months, I get the project finished right on the exact date, or mailed on the date.

I tend to make deadlines that I know I won't finish by but have hopes for. So then, one week before the deadline, I extend the date to take off the pressure. I never make deadlines for myself that I can't extend, because I know I'd never make them. For instance, my hubby's Valentine's Day gift is going to be given to him instead in March, on a date that's significant to us anyway. If I can't make that date, it's the next closest one and so on.

 

As far as my SIL's baby's afghan. He's not born yet but he's going to be here SOON, and I don't even have the yarn or pattern yet. I'll probably make and give it to her sometime after he's born. Her shower was last Saturday and I didn't want to rush into it and then not have a gift for her. That kind of deadline is more concrete, so I passed on it altogheter.

I made an afghan for my cousin's wedding present last March... the ceremony started at 6:30pm, and I put the final stitch into the afghan at 6:15pm. Whoops.
