Help with crocheted bear with precut yarn fur

amberdeeva

Question

I've finished crocheting a large bear and now need to proceed to the last step of creating fur for my friend. The pattern calls for 29 packages of pre cut hook rug yarn. I priced it out at about a total of $30 which I could have bought a baby gift for that.

The question: Can I cut the yarn myself from large skeins and acheive the same thing? I'm not sure if the ends would unravel faster or not.

Has anyone had any experience with this.

You can cut it yourself. It shouldn't ravel any more than the cut yarn in packages. Also, you might find that a latch hook makes it easier to attach the yarn to the bear, especially if the pieces are short.

I made one and used microspun, which does unravel, and it is so soft and I think it looks really cute. I have had requests to make them and sell, but like you say, the cost of making it is so much, that I don't think someone would want to pay what I would have to charge for my time as well.,
