Please help Clarify...

MarriedtoaTrucker

Question

I just learned the double stitch tonight :) But I'm having a problem with it... after the initial chain, and then the first row of double, where you skip a link each time... do you still skip a link each time you stitch? Because I was doing this and it was turning out so goofy and almost circled!!

My other question is with the double stitch, do you CH2 at the end? Or still just 1?

I looked on stitch guide, and I am just not getting a clear picture :think

When you do the double crochet, you will skip the stitch directly under the turning chain, but you also need to be sure to place a stitch into the turning chain of the previous row at the end of your current row. Most patterns will ask you to chain 3 as your turning chain for the double crochet, but only 2 if you are doing the half double. There are always variations and personal preferences, but these directions should match what you are seeing in your crochet book.

I'm not quite clear on how you are proceeding. It goes like this:

1. Make a chain

2. Double crochet into the 4th chain from hook

3. Double crochet into every chain across

4. chain 3

5. Turn your work

6. Skip first stitch at the base of the chain 3 you just did

7. Double crochet into EACH stitch across

8. Double crochet into the top stitch of the chain 3 at the end

9. Turn your work

Hope this helps a little:)

Those are excellent instructions! Good job! I love the step-by-step.

I would only add that if you crochet very loosely, you may want to go into the 3rd chain and use a chain-2 to bring up to size. However, most instructions will suggest just the same way you have it here. I personally use a ch-2. When I use ch-3 my first chains sort of pokey out because it's too tall. I'm not used to things being too tall since I'm only 5' . LOL (a little crochet humor - very little haha)

Oh, I also do my chain up before I turn, but I've seen it both ways in instructions.
