:think It will depend on the head you are making for but as a rule, I increase to where I think it looks OK then if it is not right I unravel it and either work another round of increases or undo a round to make less stitches.

Remember that when you start working straight as for a Beanie, it will take a couple of rows for it to look like it is becoming straight.

Write down what you did when it is right so you dont have to guess next time..

I always figure there will be a head somewhere to fit any hat I make as heads come in all sizes and shapes.

The weight of yarn will have a bearing on the end result too.
