What kind of yarn to use for a black sunhat?

lazyT

Question

Yes, I said BLACK sunhat :lol

My niece is sort of goth, although she doesn't like that term. Her birthday is in April and she has requested a black sunhat. Most of the cottons I have used have bled, like pink dish water when using red cotton, etc.

I'm not that familiar with what types of yarn would work for this. I think cotton or cotton blend would be good, but I certainly don't want it to bleed when wet, or sweaty :eek

Any help and input would be greatly appreciated.

I made her black fingerless glove/mitts and a Slytherin scarf for Christmas. I think I got her attention that I really can make things she likes LOL.

Thanks.

You could use cotton and wash it before you make the hat- once you've washed it there would be no excess dye to bleed out :think (in theory anyway lol)

Or black Micro Spun. I've had some Micro Spun for ages that I bought for Chinese knotting but didn't have a crochet project. Anyway, I just used the purple for the first time this morning. I was impressed more than I expected, it works up evenly and didn't split, which is what I was wondering about.
