My MIL gave me my husband's grandmother's thread hooks :manyheart. I'm anxious to get started, any suggestions for a newbie (to thread). I bought a ball of sz. 10 thread (Aunt Lydia's). I'd love to find an easy doily pattern. Thanks!

A bookmark is a good first project because it is small-you finish quick-and it's great to build confidence. You can find a lot of bookmark patterns on crochetpatterncentral.com

If you want to jump right in to doilies - this is the pattern I used for my first doily and it was really easy

or you could work in multiple colors on the round using dc , tr and sc and perhaps work in stacking increases for a pattern to assist with learning the right tension, then try one with netting and pattern stitches or just build out to the netting.

Thanks for the advice!! I'm working on a baby afghan right now (with another hook from DH's grandmother, I think is ivory but I'm not sure) but plan on starting thread bookmarks once I'm finished. ~Sara
