What does sp mean?

 

 

Round 4:

 

Ch 3, dc in each st around, in ch 2 sp work ( 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc). Join with a sl st in top of ch 3. (24 dc).

 

 

I get the rest of the round, but I'm not sure what the sp is.

I think it means space, the ch2 must make a space between the other stitches

Just to confirm, it does mean space. The directions mean to crochet around the ch 2 that you made on the previous row. Do not go into each ch stitch but go into the "space" under the stitches.

I have always understood sp to mean space, but I recently read a pattern that defined it as "special"... which still ended up meaning to crochet in the "special" chain rather than the actual stitches.
