Crochet help

Question

Is anyone able to explain this to me please? Seems like an easy enough pattern but I’m struggling a little bit as I’ve never made a star before and the yarn I’m using is a bit fiddly.
TIA 💛

To follow as written, it is is using the first chain of the initial chain 2 (so, the one farthest from the hook) as a space for you to put all the stitches after the *.  Yes, you can fit that many  stitches into 1 chain, I think the max I've done is about 20.  This will leave you with a circle of SC with chains between (the chains rise in the air above the SCs, they form the petals - so the chains between SCs are not IN the chain you are putting the SCs into.

You are probably going to need to practice a bit.  I think stars in just about any pattern are hard to do.  I want all my points actually pointy and evenly spaced and then I want multiple stars to be identical.  So far I have had to settle for close enough.
