First go at crocheting, stuck with pattern

BumbleB

Question

Hey!

This is the first part and I'm having trouble knowing how to do the bold bit! Can anyone recommend a video, I'm struggling to visualise it.

CH 2, 7 SC in 2nd CH from hook, join to 1st ST, CH 1 (7)

(I'm in the UK and the patterns is US)

Thank you 😀

^ What she said, also just pointing out in case you haven't run into this before the (7) at the end of the row isn't an instruction, it's a 'sanity check' accounting of the number of stitches you should have at the end of a row or round.

I feel even more confused now haha, is there a book or blog you could recommend to learn the basics?

This site goes over reading patterns that are written following the accepted standards.

https://www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/how-to-read-crochet-pattern

Unfortunately many are not writing patterns using the standard (because its a lot of work) so you see many patterns written in an abbreviated style like shown here

https://hookabee.com/category/amigurumi-tips-and-tutorials/

This is a good one if you are making amigurumi.

One of our members started this thread hoping it would help

You can also learn a lot by going back and reading the questions and answers in the help section.
